Fire Extinguishers
Mandatory Cylinder Integrity Testing Every 5 Years
Hydrostatic (hydraulic) pressure testing checks a fire extinguisher cylinder's structural integrity by subjecting it to test pressures significantly above working pressure. Mandated every 5 years under BIS IS 15683 and IS 2878 standards — non-compliant cylinders must be condemned.

Tests performed per IS 15683 and IS 2878 at certified pressure levels
Each cylinder that passes receives a hydro test stamp and a signed compliance certificate
Cylinders showing cracks, corrosion, or distortion are safely condemned and replaced

Fire extinguishers have to be checked regularly. As per the manufacturer's recommendation and the relevant IS code, extinguishers have to be refilled annually or every 3 years (for ABC Type fire extinguishers). Before refilling, the extinguishers are hydraulically tested to check the metal body of the extinguisher for its strength. Hydrostatic testing involves subjecting the fire extinguisher cylinder to pressures that exceed its rating to ensure it is still capable of maintaining the pressure necessary to discharge properly in the event of a fire.
Apart from hydraulic testing, the following points should be checked during the annual maintenance of fire extinguishers:
